The communiqué, signed by Nwafor Samson, the chairman of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, and Nabob Ogbonna, the secretary, was sent to Media Talk Africa on Thursday.
The NUJ expressed its appreciation to Governor Nwifuru for appointing youths to sensitive political positions, thereby promoting a youth-led government. They also urged the appointees to diligently carry out their entrusted responsibilities.
According to the communiqué, “The Chapel commends the Governor for the caliber of individuals he has appointed to support him in implementing the policies and programs of his administration, particularly for allocating 80% of his appointments to youths.”
“The Chapel notes that now that the Governor has transformed the youths into today’s leaders by fully integrating them into governance and making them the foundation of his administration, it is crucial for the youths to live up to their responsibilities and not disappoint,” the statement further read.
The NUJ also applauded the governor for his victory at the polls, subsequent swearing-in ceremony as the 4th Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, and the appointments of Monday Uzor as Chief Press Secretary and Boniface Nwankwo as Special Adviser, Documentation, both of whom are journalists.
