In an effort to address the perceived sense of imbalance among the Igbo people in Nigeria, a member of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Advisory Council, Prof Gregory Ibe, has appealed to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to appoint Igbos into critical national positions.
Prof Gregory Ibe emphasized the importance of fostering a sense of belonging and inclusivity within Tinubu’s administration. He highlighted that the composition of both elected and appointed officials at the federal level should reflect religious and tribal equilibrium, ultimately contributing to the progress of the nation.
The Ohanaeze chieftain had previously advocated for the zoning of the Senate President position to the South East, further emphasizing the need for fairness, peace, equity, and justice for the country’s prosperity.
In recognizing the recent elections of Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President and Hon Tajudeen Abass as Speaker of the House, Prof Gregory Ibe urged them to prioritize the enactment of laws promoting inclusiveness and national unity, thereby dispelling any notion of marginalization.
Furthermore, Prof Gregory Ibe praised Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps, Benjamin Kalu, calling upon him to utilize his position to bring development and progress to Abia State, in line with the spirit of “Akuruoulo.”
Similarly, he encouraged Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe to remain steadfast in his commitment to speaking truth to power, underscoring the significance of his role as a representative of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) party.
Lastly, in light of Emmanuel Emeruwa’s appointment as the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Prof Gregory Ibe advocated for a solid partnership between the executive and legislative branches of government to revive the economy of Abia State, currently experiencing significant challenges.
