The Police Service Commission (PSC) has given its nod to the appointment of Assistant Inspectors General of Police, Bala Ciroma and Frank Mba, as Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs). This decision came to light during the Commission’s 21st plenary meeting. In a statement released on Friday by the Commission’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, it was revealed that DIG Ciroma would be taking over from the retiring DIG Ali Janga, representing the North East geo-political zone in the Police management team. On the other hand, DIG Mba is set to replace retired DIG John Amadi, who previously held the position representing the South East zone.
These appointments mark a significant development within the Nigerian Police Force, as both individuals bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their new roles. DIG Ciroma, with his distinguished service and exemplary track record, is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the North East zone. Likewise, DIG Mba, renowned for his exceptional communication skills and leadership abilities, is well-positioned to represent the South East zone effectively. With these appointments, the Police Service Commission has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring capable and qualified personnel occupy key leadership positions within the force.
In addition to the appointment of the DIGs, the Police Service Commission also authorized the promotion of 14 Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police, as well as 22 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the substantive rank of Commissioners. Furthermore, 24 Assistant Commissioners of Police and 39 Chief Superintendents of Police were also promoted to their next ranks.
The Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, expressed his congratulations to the newly promoted officers, urging them to fully dedicate themselves to the service of their country. Dr. Arase emphasized that their promotions were a testament to their hard work and commitment to their duties, and they should view their new positions as opportunities to further contribute positively to the Nigerian Police Force.
The appointment and promotion of these senior police officers come at a critical time when the Nigerian public demands improved security and law enforcement. With the inclusion of individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills, the Nigerian Police Force can enhance its capacity to protect and serve the citizens effectively. The PSC’s decision to elevate worthy officers to higher ranks is a laudable move that fosters professionalism and ensures that the force remains on a path of progress and reform.
