In a bid to ensure the safety of its citizens, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called on the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Nwoyi Polycarp Emeka, to rid the state of criminals.

During the commissioner of police’s courtesy visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to provide continuous support to all security agencies in the state.

Governor Fubara emphasized the crucial role of the police in the fight against crime and criminality. He stressed the need for the government to regularly provide logistical support to enhance the efficiency of the police force. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of receiving vital information from the public to combat crime effectively.

“Let your familiarity with Rivers State security terrain be an advantage to effectively combat crime and criminalities in the state, and I urge you to deploy your wealth of experience in fighting crime and insecurities in the state,” said Governor Fubara.

The governor expressed his disapproval of the activities of certain police officers who were operating under the guise of the discredited Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). He instructed Commissioner Emeka to investigate these illegal operations and put an end to them.

“Security is a collective responsibility of all stakeholders, and we urge you to address citizens’ complaints regarding security matters. It is essential to consider the impact of security breaches on the populace,” Governor Fubara added.

Furthermore, Governor Fubara directed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacheous Adango, along with other relevant government agencies, to establish a robust collaboration with the police and other security forces in handling security issues.

Assuring the governor of his commitment, CP Emeka stated that accurate information and intelligence would be instrumental in the fight against crime and criminality during his tenure.
