Super Eagles’ Defender Kenneth Omeruo Ruled Out of Next AFCON Qualifier Against Sao Tome

Lagos, Nigeria – In a blow to the Nigerian national football team, Kenneth Omeruo will be unable to participate in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe.

During Sunday night’s match against Sierra Leone, the Leganes centre-back received a yellow card in the 46th minute, marking his second caution in the qualifying series.

His initial yellow card was awarded during the qualifiers against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau on matchday four.

Omeruo now joins the ranks of Ola Aina and Francis Uzoho as the third Nigerian player to face suspension in the AFCON qualifiers.

The Super Eagles have already secured qualification for the 2023 tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, making the upcoming clash against Sao Tome and Principe a mere formality.
