Speaker Suleiman Re-elected, Expresses Readiness for Collaboration and Innovation

In a momentous event at the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman has been re-elected as the Speaker for the second time. Suleiman, representing the Ningi Central constituency, was unanimously elected during the inauguration of the Tenth Assembly on Tuesday.

The inauguration was presided over by the Clerk of the House, Umar Yusuf Gital, who read out the proclamation from Governor Bala Mohammed. Following the reading, the members of the 10th Assembly proceeded to vote for the principal officers of the Assembly.

Abubakar Suleiman’s re-election marks a significant milestone in the history of the Bauchi Assembly, as he becomes the first Speaker to be elected twice. Reflecting on this achievement, Mubarak Haruna, the member representing Jama’are Constituency, nominated Abubakar as Speaker, which was seconded by Auwal Hassan, representing Shira Constituency.

Additionally, the Deputy Speaker position was filled by Jamilu Umaru Dahiru, the member representing Bauchi Central Constituency. Habibu Umar, who represents Kirfi Constituency, nominated Dahiru, and Bello Sarkin Jadori, from the Gamawa Constituency, seconded the nomination.

As the first lawmaker to win re-election in Bauchi Central Constituency and the first Deputy Speaker from the Constituency, Jamilu Barade, as he is popularly known, has cemented his place in Bauchi Assembly’s history.

Following his oath of office, Speaker Abubakar stressed the importance of support and cooperation among members of the House. He reiterated his commitment to transparent and accessible leadership, encouraging constructive criticism, advice, opinions, and suggestions that would help in propelling Bauchi State forward.

Addressing his colleagues, Speaker Abubakar expressed his satisfaction with the talent and expertise present in the 10th Assembly. He emphasized the need for lawmakers to unite and harness their diverse backgrounds, knowledge, and experiences to work tirelessly in delivering the dividends of democracy to their respective constituencies.
