Residents of Irese community in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Saturday, made a plea to the state government for help in resolving the catastrophic effects of incessant flooding on the town’s sole access road.

According to the residents, the only asphalt road in the community has been falling into disrepair for a number of years and is now gradually becoming unusable during the rainy season.

They observed that the road is littered with potholes, making it challenging for vehicles, especially those hauling cargo, to travel without breaking down.

The route served as a link between Ijare and Irese communities, which are all located in Ifedore Local Government Area.

The traditional ruler of the community, the Olu of Irese Town, Oba Ahmed Saka, expressed worry over the development, adding that the community has been suffering greatly as a result of severe flooding, which he said has led to the destruction of priceless items and property.

Oba Saka added that the community’s development has been hampered by the incessant flooding, especially during the rainy season, which has resulted in the closure of nearby businesses and the emigration of people.

The traditional ruler urged the state government to resolve the problem by mending the road and putting in place suitable drainage.
