A group of Peter Obi’s supporters has advised Governor Alex Otti of Abia State against initiating a probe into the actions of his predecessor, Okezie Ikpeazu. They argue that focusing on governance rather than investigating the immediate past governor should be Otti’s priority.

The statement, signed by Mazi Chetachi Ikpe of the Peter Obi Grassroots Movement (POGM) in Abia State and Ndubueze Obiakwata, the chairman of Obidients Across Parties Alliance (OAPA) in the state, commends Otti for his exceptional first month in office, referring to him as “God’s Gift to God’s Own State (Abia).” The supporters express their pleasure with Governor Otti’s commitment to paying workers’ salaries on time, considering the welfare of civil servants as a fundamental responsibility of any government, especially a Labour Party-led one.

The group also applauds Governor Otti’s declaration of a State of Emergency on waste evacuation and management in Aba and Umuahia. They believe that under Otti’s leadership, the long-standing issue of poor sanitation in Abia State will be effectively addressed, eradicating the negative stigma associated with the state.

However, the supporters urge Governor Otti to resist the temptation of embarking on a probe of his predecessor’s administration, claiming it will serve as a significant distraction from his mission to rebuild Abia State and improve the lives of its citizens. They draw attention to former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi’s handling of his predecessor’s records, emphasizing the importance of focusing on surpassing the achievements of previous administrations rather than engaging in blame and unnecessary investigations.

The statement further highlights Governor Otti’s position as the only Labour Party governor in Nigeria, placing the spotlight on his ability to prove to Nigerians what they would miss if they were to miss having Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, in power. The supporters urge Governor Otti to remember the legacies of Dr. Michael Okpara and Dr. Sam Mbakwe, iconic figures in Nigerian politics, and use his position to pave the way for a new and prosperous Nigeria.
