Inter Milan has expressed its disappointment after it was revealed that Chelsea’s veteran defender, Cesar Azpilicueta, has turned down a move to San Siro, despite an apparent agreement with the Serie A giants.
According to reports, Chelsea has informed Azpilicueta that they will not require his services for the upcoming season.
Beppe Marotta, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Inter Milan, has claimed that the Spanish defender has been “tempted” by a proposal from Atletico Madrid.
Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, has reported that Azpilicueta is on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid this summer.
This decision comes as a surprise, considering the verbal agreement that was in place for Azpilicueta to join Inter Milan.
Marotta admitted that the Spaniard is now more inclined towards Atletico’s offer.
“It appears that he is tempted by a proposal from Spain [Atletico Madrid], and so he is currently negotiating with them,” said Marotta, as reported by Romano.
