Bola Babarinde, a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) South Africa Chapter, has lauded the reconciliatory efforts of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and his immediate predecessor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

Issuing a statement on Monday, Mr. Babarinde commended Mr. Sanwo-Olu for attending Ambode’s 60th birthday party and praised him for his unwavering commitment to serving Lagos State as both governor and civil servant.

He described this gesture as a significant step towards rebuilding bridges and fostering unity among political leaders and peace-loving Nigerians.

The relationship between Messrs Sanwo-Olu and Ambode deteriorated in 2019 after the latter was denied a second term by the APC.

According to Mr. Babarinde, through this act of reconciliation, Sanwo-Olu has exemplified the importance of forgiveness, togetherness, and love, following in the footsteps of his mentor, President Bola Tinubu.

Mr. Babarinde acknowledged that Mr. Tinubu’s journey to the presidency was fraught with challenges and valuable lessons, yet he remained resolute in his pursuit of his lifelong ambition.

“He endured betrayals, abuse, denigration, unjust accusations, and demonization by both friends and foes, but he was undeterred and unwavering in his determination to achieve his ultimate goal,” he stated.

“Tinubu has mentored many individuals who have failed to demonstrate even 10 percent of his political sagacity, humanitarianism, forgiveness, and, of course, his ability to predict the future,” Mr. Babarinde added.

He specifically highlighted Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as one of Tinubu’s proteges, noting that he organized a reception to warmly welcome the political leader back to his home state.

“The event was attended by friends, acquaintances, and also served as a reunion for the four governors who have served Lagos since 1999,” Mr. Babarinde explained.

He further emphasized that Sanwo-Olu initiated the reconciliation process with Ambode, his predecessor, by speaking highly of him during his 60th birthday celebration, garnering significant publicity for his magnanimity and humility.
