Osun Governor’s Wife Commends Widows on International Widows Day

The wife of the Governor of Osun State, Titilola Adeleke, has expressed her admiration for the widows in the state, applauding their resilience in the face of adversity.

Adeleke highlighted the fact that losing a partner is already a difficult ordeal, compounded by the ongoing struggle for their fundamental rights and dignity.

In a press statement issued to commemorate the 2023 International Widows Day, Adeleke conveyed her appreciation for the widows’ strength and courage.

The theme for this year’s Widows Day is “Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.”

In the statement, Adeleke acknowledged the challenges faced by widows, stating, “Widows not only have to endure grief, loss, or trauma following the death of a spouse, but they may also encounter economic insecurity, discrimination, stigmatization, and harmful traditional practices due to their marital status.

Today, as the world observes International Widows Day, I empathize with all widows and recognize the pain and difficulties associated with widowhood. I commend the widows in the State for their resilience in times of hardship and their bravery in moments of despair.”

She also offered her prayers for strength and comfort for all widows, stating, “It is my fervent prayer that God, the true husband of widows, will provide them with the fortitude to withstand tough times.”

Adeleke assured the widows that she will continue to develop evidence-based programs aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by widows in Osun State.

“I pray that Almighty God will strengthen and comfort all widows who are going through hard times.

“Furthermore, I affirm my commitment to implementing programs based on solid research that will mitigate the effects of widowhood in any part of Osun State.”
