In a strong criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government, the leader of the Yoruba socio-political organization, Ayo Adebanjo, has declared that the Tinubu administration does not exist and is therefore illegitimate.
Adebanjo expressed his views during an interview on Arise Television, where he asserted that the election which brought Tinubu into power was flawed, rendering his presidency void.
Highlighting the ongoing presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Adebanjo argued that the presidential election remains inconclusive. In light of this, he maintained that it would be premature to recognize Tinubu as president.
According to Adebanjo: “For now, Afenifere’s stance is to refrain from commenting on Tinubu’s administration. We firmly believe that the elections have not reached a final verdict as the process is still underway in court. Thus, it would be both meaningful and meaningless to pass judgment on someone who is in office, especially when we do not believe he should be there until a final decision is reached by the court.”
He further clarified, “Our concern is not about Tinubu’s ability to govern, but the fundamental flaw in the process that brought him to power. How can one build something on nothing? He is currently enjoying an ephemeral claim to power. Only when all legal matters are fully resolved can we acknowledge his existence.”
Adebanjo concluded by stating, “I refuse to comment on the actions of someone who is not yet a legitimate authority until the final judgment of the court. While our party’s stance may be contested, this is our position. I cannot recognize him as holding an office that, in my belief, ceases to exist.”
