Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called for a comprehensive audit report of the state-owned Ibom Power Company. The governor made the demand during his familiarisation tour of the company in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Eno expressed his desire to reposition the company and ensure improved power generation and distribution. He emphasized the importance of personally verifying reports rather than relying solely on field assessments.
The governor described his tour of the company as revealing, as it uncovered several operational issues plaguing the power plant. He assured stakeholders that with a repositioning of the company, the state would witness uninterrupted electricity supply.
During his visit, Governor Eno acknowledged the willingness of the Ministry of Power, the Board and Management of Ibom Power, and Savannah Energy – the gas supplier – to work collaboratively in finding solutions to the challenges.
The governor further stated, “Let’s have an audit report of what the issues are so that we can tackle them, solve them, and get the place running.” He emphasized the need for a comprehensive audit report to identify and address the root causes of the company’s difficulties.
Accompanied by the Deputy Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, and members of the State House of Assembly, Governor Eno expressed the collective resolve to rectify the situation.
Chairman of Ibom Power Company, Etido Inyang, guided the governor and his team during the tour. Inyang highlighted the company’s operations and requested the government’s assistance in enabling the power plant to operate optimally.
The call for an audit report reflects the government’s commitment to improving power generation and distribution in Akwa Ibom State. It demonstrates Governor Eno’s hands-on approach to governance and his dedication to ensuring accessible and reliable electricity for the residents of the state.
