156,979 pupils screened into JSS1 in Oyo State

The Oyo State Government has disclosed that no fewer than 156,979 pupils participated in the 2023 screening and placement exercise for primary six pupils transiting into public Junior Secondary School One (JSS 1) in the state.

The government made this disclosure on Monday.

It stated that pupils across 503 centres participated in the exercise.

The Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, made these revelations in a statement made available to Media Talk Africa.

He noted that the exercise took place on Monday.

He added that the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Salihu Abdul Waheed, and a ministry team monitored the exercise in some centres within the Ibadan metropolis.

Some of the centres visited included Ikolaba Grammar School, Ikolaba, Army Barracks Grammar School, Iwo Road, and Community Grammar School, Ibadan.

Others are Bishop Phillips Academy, Ibadan, Monatan High School and Lagelu Basic Special School, Iyana Church, Ibadan.

The commissioner, who applauded the hitch-free exercise, noted that the centres visited were peaceful and devoid of malpractice.
