CSO Calls on Akwa Ibom Government, NDDC, and Oil Companies to Empower Young Females

A Civil Society Organisation, known as the Centre for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN), has recently called upon the Akwa Ibom State government, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and the oil companies operating in the state to actively support programmes aimed at the development of young females in the region.

The organisation suggests that this support can take the form of education, ranging from primary to tertiary level, as well as comprehensive life enhancement skill acquisition training.

The Akwa Ibom State Director of the organisation, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, made this appeal on Thursday in Uyo during an advocacy visit to his office by Lady Edna Udeme, the Executive Director of the Purple Girls Association.

Moreover, Isong also emphasized the importance for lawmakers who plan to embark on constituency empowerment projects to prioritize girls who are in dire need of support, rather than favoring individuals from their own families.

Prior to Isong’s statement, Mrs. Udeme, the Progenitor of the Female Youth Academy (Purple Girls), urged Governor Umo Eno to consider the plight of young girls when distributing palliatives for the fuel subsidy removal, specifically addressing the issue of mobility. She explained that the high cost of transportation compels the girls to undertake long and arduous journeys daily in order to attend training sessions.
