Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has announced that the state government will allocate three billion naira towards palliative measures, aimed at mitigating the impact of subsidy removal on its citizens.

The announcement was made during the conclusion of a two-day retreat in Suleja, which was attended by commissioners, members of the Niger State House of Assembly, special advisers, local government council chairmen, and heads of MDAs.

Governor Bago stated that each ward in the Chanchaga, Bida, Suleja, and Kontagora local government areas will receive a sum of twenty million naira, while the remaining wards in the twenty-one LGAs will be granted ten million naira each.

These funds will be utilized to procure food items at the ward level, which will then be distributed to the grassroots areas.

“A committee will be established for immediate implementation,” Governor Bago announced.

During the retreat, Governor Bago urged political appointees to take proactive measures in revenue generation, recognizing that “revenue is crucial for driving the state’s development plans.”

“No visionary idea can be effectively realized without adequate funds,” he emphasized. “This is why all stakeholders in governance must adopt an assertive and purposeful approach towards revenue generation, in order to meet the needs of our citizens.”

In response to the revenue concerns raised at the event, Mohammed Madami Etsu, the chairman of the Niger State Internal Revenue Service, reassured the governor that the revenue service will diligently work towards achieving the set targets.
