Gyan Predicts Victor Osimhen to Triumph as African Player of the Year 2023

In a fervent endorsement, former Ghanaian national team captain, Asamoah Gyan, has voiced his belief that Victor Osimhen will secure the prestigious African Player of the Year award in 2023.

Osimhen’s instrumental role in Napoli’s Scudetto triumph last season exemplifies his ability and potential.

The remarkable 24-year-old striker netted an impressive 26 goals in 32 league appearances for the revered Italian club, making history as the first African and Nigerian to clinch the top scorer accolade in the Italian top-flight.

In addition to his remarkable Serie A performance, Osimhen also registered an additional five goals for Napoli in the UEFA Champions League.

Gyan, acknowledging Osimhen’s outstanding achievements, unequivocally asserts that the Nigerian forward is the rightful recipient of this esteemed accolade.

During an interview with Brilla FM, Gyan expressed, “For me, he (Osimhen) deserves it. As a striker, witnessing his remarkable contributions which led Napoli to win the league after more than three decades, I firmly believe he is unquestionably deserving of this accolade.”

The Confederation of African Football will announce the recipient of this prestigious award later this year, with the last Nigerian to claim this honor being former Arsenal forward, Kanu Nwankwo, back in 1999.
