In a resolute stance against the rising tide of insecurity, the Council Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, Mr. Ikechukwu Odono, has pledged to combat all forms of attacks and threats to the lives and properties of the council’s inhabitants. Warning hoodlums who perpetrate violence and destroy properties worth millions in Ohaukwu, Mr. Odono declared that they will not escape the full force of the law.

Delivering this stern message on Thursday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Chairman Odono expressed his appreciation to Governor Francis Nwifuru for his unwavering support and collaboration with the chairmen of the 13 LGAs in the state. This partnership, he stated, has facilitated the delivery of dividends of democracy to the grassroots communities within the state.

Mr. Odono lamented the impact of hoodlum activities on the residents of Ohaukwu, making it impossible for them to feel safe and secure in their own homes. However, he assured the community that the recent attack, which resulted in the burning of two vehicles belonging to the neighborhood watch commander, will be the final incident of its kind in Ohaukwu LGA, by the grace of God.

Undeterred by the challenges at hand, Chairman Odono restated his commitment to restoring lasting peace and order in all the communities of the council. He emphasized, “We will bring peace and order to the council and put an end to all attacks on our people, so that they can sleep with both eyes closed.”

Reacting promptly to the situation, Mr. Sunday Inyima, the Commissioner of Capital City and Urban Development in Ebonyi State, acknowledged that over eight villages had fallen victim to suspected terrorist activities. However, he commended Chairman Odono for his proactive approach in combating insecurity within Ohaukwu LGA, particularly in Ukwagba community.
