A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Search for Common Ground, has announced plans to train Nigerian journalists on effective reportage of religious freedom.
The Project Manager of the organization, Daniel Ogabiela, made this announcement in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, at the conclusion of a 3-day workshop for journalists aimed at developing a comprehensive curriculum for the training.
Mr. Ogabiela emphasized that the NGO would incorporate the insights and suggestions provided by the workshop participants to create a curriculum that can be shared with all media houses and used in the training sessions.
“We are committed to building a robust curriculum that can be shared with all media houses. Moreover, we will utilize it to train journalists,” said Mr. Ogabiela.
Furthermore, he revealed that the NGO has already identified media houses in Nigeria’s six geo-political zones where their journalists will undergo the training program.
Yahaya Ndambabo, a participant from Voice of Nigeria, stressed the importance of media in promoting peace and emphasized the need for journalists to possess sound knowledge in reporting on religious issues and beliefs.
Adeola Akinbobola, another participant from Blueprint Newspaper, praised the organization for its initiative and encouraged other NGOs to follow suit in their efforts to improve society.
