The Directorate of Road Traffic Services of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating the issue of illegal motor parks, tricycles, commercial motorcycles, and unroadworthy vehicles in Abuja. This initiative aims to enhance the safety of lives and property within the city.

The Directorate called upon those perpetuating this problem to cease their negative actions, as its personnel will tirelessly continue their efforts to clean up the city. Osho Deborah, the Head of Operations at the Directorate, reiterated this stance during a routine clean-up exercise at notorious spots in the FCT, such as Area 1 through Apo bridge and roundabout, as well as major road corridors within Apo, Gudu, Galadimawa, and Lokogoma areas.

During the exercise, approximately 15 motorcycles around Games village and 20 vehicles, including tricycles, were impounded for various offenses. These violations included operating in illegal parks and lacking roadworthiness within the city. Osho stated that “the impounded motorcycles will be crushed, while the unroadworthy vehicles will be repaired before facing the mobile court. Additionally, those confiscated from illegal parks will also be presented before the mobile court sitting at their respective offices.”

“What we are doing today is just part of the ongoing general clean-up of the city,” Osho emphasized. “We have been carrying out these efforts for several weeks. However, the city remains plagued with dirt and negative elements.”

“We have targeted illegal motor parks—those that are parking in unauthorized areas—and we have also addressed the issue of commercial motorcycles that are not permitted in the city. This serves as a message to the residents of Abuja that negativity is not tolerated. All forms of traffic offenses and nuisances are prohibited. We must respect traffic laws.”

Osho added, “To those involved in this menace, they should be aware that personnel from the Directorate are determined to continue cleaning up the city. We will not tire, so we urge them to refrain from such activities.”

Speaking on the matter, Peter Olumuji, Secretary of Command and Control at FCTA, emphasized that eradicating all forms of nuisances will ultimately guarantee the security of lives and property. This is the aspiration of FCT residents.

“Every individual must be willing to play their part,” Olumuji stated. “As part of the enforcement team, we are committed to upholding the law. Orderliness must be restored in the FCT.”

“We aim to create a well-organized and respectable city. However, this can only be achieved if we are all committed to doing the right thing. Each resident of the FCT must fulfill their responsibilities, so that future generations can enjoy the dream city we envision. This is why we consistently strive to make a difference.”
