In a recent revelation, former Sporting Kansas City player Jimmy Conrad has shed light on Lionel Messi’s apparent misery during his stint at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), despite the privilege of playing alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe – two of the biggest names in football. Messi recently left PSG to join Inter Miami on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with the French Ligue 1 champions.
The iconic seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has made a remarkable start to his career at Inter Miami, playing a pivotal role in their triumph in the Leagues Cup. In just nine matches for the Major League Soccer (MLS) side, Messi has already found the back of the net eleven times.
During an episode of the ‘In Soccer We Trust’ podcast, Conrad expressed, “When I watch him [Messi] play now, he looks like he’s having a lot of fun and he’s got a smile on his face. I can’t stress enough how crucial that is for a player, especially at this stage of his career, considering everything he’s been through. It’s in stark contrast to his time in Paris with PSG, where he appeared to be miserable.”
Conrad goes on to highlight that despite the privilege of playing alongside world-class talents like Mbappe and Neymar, happiness cannot be guaranteed, particularly if personal circumstances are not favorable. He further adds, “[Now] they all just look like they are having the best time, and that is awesome. It has already manifested on the field.”
