IGP warns police operatives against extortion, harassment on highways

Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun warned in Abuja on Tuesday that critical sanctions awaited police operatives engaged in extortion and harassment, notably on interstate highways.

“Alleged incidences of extortion, intimidation, and harassment of commuters on highways are being appeared into and the drive is resolute in addressing these points promptly and decisively.

“In response to the studies and collection of complaints obtained on police platforms, the police management have directed all supervising officers to undertake stringent supervision of their subordinates within the discipline.

“The thought is primarily to curb and eradicate the unprofessional conduct of erring officers,’’ Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi quoted Egbetokun as saying.
