Taraba varsity warns staff against extorting students

The management of the Taraba State University, TSU, has warned staff who extort students under the guise of project supervision fees and project topics to desist.

Given the directive on Monday, in a circular made available to journalists in Jalingo, the state capital, the Vice Chancellor TSU, described the development as unacceptable.

The circular signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Isa Musa, warned that “the attention of the university management has been drawn to the increasing incidence of extortion of students by staff under the guise of project supervision fee and project topics approval fee.”

The management decried the increasing rate of extortion in the institution, warning that the school management would not hesitate to bring to book a lecturer caught extorting students.

The statement said, “VC has therefore directed that staff engaged in such acts should desist immediately, any staff found culpable would face disciplinary measures.”

The management also asked students to always speak out against staff feeding on such acts.

“Students are encouraged to speak out and report such incidents to the university management”. The circular reads.

Deans and heads of departments were advised to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

Final-year students in the University had recently raised alarm over alleged extortion by the staff of the institution.
