NNPP vows to tackle vote-buying as police arrest APC member with 29 PVCs in Kano

Following frequent reports of unpatriotic politicians buying and hoarding permanent voter’s cards in various Kano communities, the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, established mechanisms to check their excesses.

The spokesman for the NNPP, Sunusi Dawakintofa, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying a suspected PVC buyer was arrested by the police.

“As a result of massive awareness created by the party on the aforementioned evil activities, community members in Dawaki East of Dawakin Tofa Local Government area of Kano State have reported a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who was reportedly sighted with 29 PVCs at Dawaki town on January 18.

“The suspect simply identified as Tasiu Abdullahi Hayin Hago, a 45 year old man was arrested by the police after being reportedly found in possession of 29 copies of PVCs belonging to unsuspecting members of the community which is contrary to the electoral act 2022 as amended.

“While answering questions after his arrest at the Criminal Investigation Department of Kano State Police Command, the party gathered from a reliable source that suspect alleged that he was assigned by the son of Kano state governor Abba Ganduje who is also the candidate of APC for Dawakin Tofa, Rimingado and Tofa Federal constituency.

“Our Rep candidate Abba wants the Voter’s cards for empowerment of N10,000 to people who agree to vote for him, kindly give me the PVCs to continue my assignment” the suspect reiterated in his response part of which was documented in the case file.

Mr Dawakintofa said the party had directed its legal team led by the state legal adviser, Bashir Tudunwazirchi, to pursue the matter and ensure that the suspect is arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction to face the full wrath of the law.

“You may recall that we have recently secured judgment on similar case against the APC chairman of Yautar Arewa in Gabasawa local government area of Kano state” said Bature Sunusi Bature.

He enjoined community members to speak out and report incidences of such nature in the spirit of protecting democratic principles.

Meanwhile, spokesman for Kano Police Command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest of the suspect to journalists in Kano.

“Yes the case is with us and Tasiu Abdullahi Hayin Hago was arrested in Dawakin Tofa and subsequently transferred to the State CID for further investigation” Mr Kiyawa, a superintendent of police, said.
