Enugu PRP Governorship Candidate Vows to Appeal Tribunal Judgement

The Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Enugu State, Chris Agu, has expressed his determination to appeal the judgement of the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal regarding the alleged NYSC certificate forgery case involving Governor Peter Mbah.

In a statement made in Enugu on Thursday, Agu reacted to the tribunal’s dismissal of his petition, which challenged the alleged forgery of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate by Governor Mbah of Enugu State.

It can be recalled that the tribunal dismissed the PRP’s petition on the NYSC certificate forgery accusations leveled against Mbah, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 18, 2023 Governorship Election.

Led by Justice K. M. Akano, the three-man tribunal ruled that Mbah was elected with a majority of the votes cast during the election.

Agu had accused the PDP and their candidate, Mbah, of NYSC certificate forgery and overvoting.

The tribunal stated that there was no evidence to support PRP’s claim that a forged certificate was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Additionally, they mentioned that this issue was not mentioned in the petitioner’s affidavit.

Furthermore, the tribunal explained that in order to prove forgery, both the original and the allegedly forged certificate should have been presented as evidence.

However, Agu remains resolved and stated that he is rejecting the judgement both physically and spiritually. He asserted that he had submitted all the necessary documents to prosecute the case.

“I am going to appeal the judgement and pursue it to the highest court in the land,” Agu affirmed.
