Souness Questions Arsenal’s Decision to Sign Havertz from Chelsea

Liverpool legend, Graeme Souness, has voiced his concerns over Arsenal’s decision to acquire 24-year-old midfielder Kai Havertz from Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

Despite the hefty £65 million price tag, Havertz has struggled to make an impact since joining Arsenal.

With zero goal contributions in seven appearances across all competitions for the Gunners, questions are being raised about the wisdom of this signing.

In his column for the Daily Mail, Souness expressed his doubts, stating, “Not all of Arsenal’s spending makes sense to me. They have invested £65 million in Kai Havertz.”

Souness further questioned the decision, saying, “Surely, you wouldn’t spend that kind of money based on what he has shown at Chelsea over the past three seasons?”

Arsenal’s hope is that their manager, Mikel Arteta, can bring out the best in Havertz, something Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, and Graham Potter were unable to do. However, Souness sarcastically wished Arteta luck with this endeavor.

Souness also highlighted Havertz’s lackluster scoring record, stating, “As a striker, the number of games played and the number of goals scored matter. Havertz has managed just 19 Premier League goals in three seasons for Chelsea. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.”
