The Police Service Commission (PSC) has issued a directive to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to immediately take action against and bring to justice those responsible for creating a deceitful Facebook account under the commission’s name.
Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations, expressed the commission’s concern over the emergence of this fake account, particularly as the commission is about to commence the 2023 Police recruitment exercise.
Ani stated that these fraudsters could exploit these fraudulent social media platforms to compromise future recruitment processes conducted by the commission.
“As of Saturday, September 23rd, 2023, it has come to the commission’s attention that the fake account had already amassed 22,000 members and 1,700 followers, with an individual named Prosper Stephen claiming ownership,” said Ani.
“The commission would like to clarify that Stephen is unknown to the commission and should not be associated with any of the commission’s official social media accounts,” the statement added.
The commission also advised Nigerians to exercise caution and avoid falling into the hands of fraudsters who may exploit the Facebook platform to defraud desperate job seekers.
Furthermore, the commission issued a stern warning that it would not hesitate to take action against anyone found involved in criminal activities.
“Nigerians are urged to be wary of these dubious individuals and to report anyone requesting payment for any commission program to the nearest police station,” the commission admonished.
