The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the African Action Congress, AAC, has firmly rejected the four bags of rice offered by the Federal Government as a palliative measure to alleviate the adverse economic impact of subsidy removal.
Elder Utip Etiebiet, the AAC chairman in the state, expressed disappointment, stating that the palliative scheme was a deliberate attempt to mock and manipulate the intelligence of Nigerians.
Etiebet further highlighted that the distribution of the palliative was unfairly politicized, with preference given along political party lines within the state.
Addressing the issue in the state capital, Uyo, Etiebet disclosed that the party returned the four bags of rice it had received from the state government, facilitated through the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, responsible for the distribution of relief materials.
A letter has been dispatched to IPAC notifying them of the party’s decision.
Etiebet firmly asserted, “In line with the stance of the African Action Congress, AAC, that the palliative scheme by the Federal Government of Nigeria is deceptive, deceitful, and a dubious way of treating the intelligence of Nigerians, we hereby decline the offer of four bags of rice presented to our party.”
“AAC is not a refugee camp, and we have never resorted to acting like beggars, deserving of four bags of rice. Our members are in unanimous agreement that we do not need to rely on palliative measures, as AAC is not a refugee camp.”
