Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has returned to the country after a week-long visit to New York for the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
During his time at UNGA, there was speculation surrounding Tinubu’s whereabouts, as his Special Adviser to the President on Media, Ajuri Ngelale, remained silent on the matter. However, it has now been confirmed that Tinubu flew back to Nigeria on Friday night after departing from New York on September 22. There were unconfirmed reports suggesting that he made a stopover in Paris on his way back.
At the UNGA, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing the challenges faced by African nations. In his address to the General Assembly, Tinubu, who is also the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), called for support in reestablishing democratic governance and tackling the political and economic issues plaguing the region, including the threat of violent extremists.
In addition to addressing global leaders, President Tinubu also met with investors to discuss the need for increased foreign investment in Nigeria. He also took the opportunity to engage with Nigerians residing in the U.S., urging them to be positive representatives of their home country.
