The National Association of Nurses and Midwives has announced its intent to join the proposed nationwide strike, adding to the mounting pressure on the Nigerian government.
In a notice of indefinite nationwide strike, signed by Secretary T. A. Shettima, National President Nnachi Michael Ekuma, Deputy National President Shehu Abubakar and other officials, the association expressed its dissatisfaction with the removal of fuel subsidy and the subsequent hardships faced by Nigerian workers and the less privileged.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has made multiple attempts to alleviate the sufferings of workers, including mass street protests, a three-day warning strike, and several ultimatums. However, the Federal Government has failed to respond adequately.
Consequently, during the NLC National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, September 26th, 2023, it was resolved to commence an indefinite strike, set to begin on Tuesday, October 3rd.
