Plateau State Government Issued Warning Against Jungle Justice, Urges Youths to Report Concerns to Authorities

In a recent statement, Mr Lawandi Datti, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Plateau State, cautioned the youth against resorting to jungle justice, emphasizing the importance of reporting concerns to the appropriate authorities.

Mr Datti made these remarks during a visit to the bereaved family of Fwinbe Gofwan, a minibus driver who tragically fell victim to a mob attack on September 25 in Jos.

Gofwan’s brutal murder was reportedly motivated by an unfounded allegation.

The Commissioner urged the youth to uphold the rule of law, refrain from taking matters into their own hands, and place their trust in the legal system.

Mr Datti also commended the Nigeria Police Force for their swift arrest of one of the suspects involved in the crime.

During his visit, the Commissioner expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and the entire Plateau youth community.

Mr Thomas Gofwan, the father of the deceased, conveyed his gratitude to Mr Datti for the consoling condolence visit.

However, Mr Gofwan used the opportunity to call on the Plateau Government to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime face justice.

Meanwhile, Elder John Gobak, a former Secretary to the Government of Plateau and a close friend of the deceased father, described the murder of Fwinbe Gofwan as a devastating episode.

Speaking fondly of the late Gofwan, Elder Gobak praised his industriousness and his caring nature towards others.

“He was a people person, always willing to lend a hand and assist those in need. The government must deal decisively with those arrested, following due process, to serve as a deterrent to others,” Elder Gobak urged.
