Strike: NLC makes case for Jigawa civil servants

The JIgawa State chapter of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) said it forwarded three workers’ demands to the state government for consideration.

NLC chairman, Jigawa State chapter, Isah Alhassan Maigatari, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday, while reacting to the Federal Government’s decision to issue an N35,000 wage award to its workers for six months.

He said the NLC has already presented palliative demand for civil servants to the Jigawa State Government to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

“Some of our demands are; for the government to find a means that will ease transportation and a provision of soft loans for the civil servants.”

He said the government has already received the demands and is working on it.

“I am sure the government will look at it and consider all our demands.”

Commenting on the proposed nationwide strike, the JIgawa State NLC chairman noted that Jigawa would not be exceptional as all trade union organizations had been mobilized for the upcoming industrial action if the national body issued directives.

Media Talk Africa learned that part of the NLC and Federal Government agreements include, that the state governments should also implement the wage award of 35k without prolonged negotiation.
