Winless in their opening two games of the season, Plateau United faces increasing pressure to get their campaign back on track in the 2022/23 abridged Nigeria Professional Football League. The team, led by Fidelis Ilechukwu, experienced a thrilling yet uncompromising 3-3 draw against 3SC at home on match-day one. In their subsequent match, they came close to securing a consolation point on the road but were ultimately undone by a late header from Bendel Insurance in Benin. This disappointing result left Ilechukwu searching for a silver lining, as his team has managed to collect only one point from a possible six.

As Plateau United continues its quest for its first win of the season, they return home to the new Jos Stadium to face Enyimba of Aba. Enyimba secured all three points on the same ground against Nasarawa United in their opening match. However, Ilechukwu remains unfazed by Enyimba’s recent success at the stadium, asserting that his team is ready for a different challenge. “We have prepared, and the most important thing is that we are a scoring side. We are working to ensure that we score more and concede less. To stay in a comfortable position, we need to win, and I believe we are in top shape,” Ilechukwu stated in an interview with Sports Extra. He also expressed gratitude for the patience of their fans, emphasizing the team’s commitment to bringing them joy after the match.

On the other hand, Enyimba, who previously triumphed in Jos against Nasarawa United, faced a setback when they were defeated at home by Akwa United on Wednesday. Their coach, Finidi George, acknowledged the need for improvement to build momentum. “We conceded one goal in our last two games, and our center backs performed well in the last match. Aside from that, I think we have to work harder and get our mental state right,” Finidi remarked following the game against Akwa. Currently, Enyimba sits third in the Group A table with four points, while Plateau United is positioned seventh with just one point.
