On Sunday, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Deputy President of the Senate and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Delta State, welcomed 26 leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who defected to the APC under the Delta Unity Group (DUG). Omo-Agege expressed his commitment to hold Governor Ifeanyi Okowa accountable for his perceived non-performance in the upcoming February 25 presidential election. The DUG members, reportedly over 25,000 in number and loyal to former Governor James Ibori, are expected to significantly impact the APC’s chances of victory.

During his campaign at St. George’s College in the Obinomba community of Ukwuani Local Government Area, Omo-Agege criticized Okowa’s administration, highlighting that despite receiving N4.2 trillion in federal allocations over the past seven years, the state has not seen adequate development. He asserted that this poor performance has already paved the way for an APC victory. Among the notable Ibori loyalists who joined the APC during the rally were former Commissioner and three-time House of Representatives member Mercy Isei, PDP Board of Trustees member and former Commissioner Chief Judith Enamuotor, and several other prominent political figures.

Omo-Agege emphasized the determination of the people of Delta State to ensure that the APC wins all three senatorial districts and the governorship, viewing this as a means to penalize Okowa for his governance. He stated, “Come February 25, we have everything that it takes to chase Okowa out. We will win them. How many are there that we can’t beat? We have the chance to punish Okowa at the ballot. We will chase them away.” He further expressed confidence in the APC’s ability to secure all three Senate seats, promising that if elected governor, he would ensure equitable treatment across all senatorial districts. Omo-Agege committed to judiciously and fairly applying state resources, stating, “Our schools will no longer be kindergarten schools.”
