Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has expressed his profound sadness at the passing of Senator Bello Maitama Yusuf, a former Minister and prominent member of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC).

In a statement, President Tinubu extended his deepest sympathy and condolences to Senator Yusuf’s family, friends, and the government and people of Jigawa State.

The President commended Senator Bello Maitama Yusuf for his meritorious service to Nigeria as a Minister in the Federal Ministries of Interior and Commerce, and as a Senator. He highlighted Senator Yusuf’s unwavering dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians through effective service delivery.

“Senator Maitama Yusuf was a true patriot, committed to the unity and stability of Nigeria. He made remarkable contributions to the socio-economic development of our country and displayed selflessness throughout his public service career,” President Tinubu stated.

During his tenure in the Senate, Senator Yusuf was widely recognized as a champion of good governance, transparency, and youth empowerment. Following his political career, he ventured into business and achieved great success.

President Tinubu also acknowledged Senator Yusuf’s pivotal role in protecting Nigeria’s democracy, particularly his efforts to thwart attempts by anti-democratic forces to circumvent constitutional term limits.

The President concluded by praying for the eternal repose of the late Senator’s soul and offering solace to all those who mourn this irreplaceable loss.

Born in Gwaram, Jigawa State in 1947, Bello Maitama Yusuf served as the Minister of Interior in 1981 and the Minister of Commerce in 1982. He later served as a senator from 1999 to 2007. Senator Yusuf passed away in the early hours of Friday, October 13th, in Kano, at the age of 76.
