Benue, Ebonyi Communal Conflict: Lawmaker Agbese leads delegation to broker peace

The Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Dr Philip Agbese, has taken up the mantle to mediate in the long-standing conflict between the Agila and Ngbo communities in Ado and Ohaukwu LGAs of Benue and Ebonyi States respectively.

Dr Agbese recently convened a meeting with key stakeholders at the Ohaukwu Local Government headquarters in Ebonyi State, in a dedicated effort to bring an end to the decades-old communal crisis.

Notably, this peace parley stands out as a remarkable initiative to finally achieve lasting and sustainable peace between the Agila and Ngbo communities.

During his discussion with journalists after the peace parley, Dr Agbese shared his perspective on peace, stating, “Peace is not merely the absence of war or conflict in a society. It encompasses the ability to set aside differences in the interest of growth and development.”

He further added, “Today, I led the esteemed residents of Agila to a ground-breaking peace meeting with our Ngbo brothers at the headquarters of Ohaukwu Local Government Area.”

Expressing gratitude, he continued, “This has always been one of my primary pledges during my campaign, and by the grace of God, peace has now returned to Agila, Benue State, and Ngbo, Ebonyi State.”

Dr Agbese affirmed his commitment with fervor, affirming, “We are on the path to progress, guided by the Almighty. We cannot be deterred in our efforts to bring about positive change.”

Joining him on this noble quest were top political, religious, and traditional leaders from the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency. Honourable Eze Nwachukwu Eze, representing Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, also attended to show solidarity and support.

Significantly, the Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Lami Danladi, who represents Ado State Constituency, was present at the meeting, further emphasizing the importance and urgency of resolving this conflict.
