In a bid to promote dignity and uphold traditional values, the Borno State Government has issued a ban on street begging and loitering in the city of Maiduguri and its environs. The ban comes as part of the government’s efforts to restore order and ensure the cultural integrity of the Borno people.
According to a public notice released by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Professor Usman Tar, the practice of street begging and aimless loitering is not representative of the character and identity of the Borno people. As a dignified and noble community, the state government aims to preserve the values that define its people.
“In Borno State, street begging and aimless loitering are not in our character. We are dignified people,” Professor Tar stated.
He further emphasized the importance of the ban by stating, “This is to inform members of the public that the Borno State Government has placed a strict ban on all street begging, loitering, and gallivanting within and around Maiduguri Metropolis and Jere Local Government Areas.”
