The police in Imo State confirmed on Monday the beheading of Chris Ohizu, the Sole Administrator of the Ideato North Local Government Area. Ohizu was kidnapped on Friday, along with two others, after hoodlums set fire to his home in the Imoko community of Arondizuogu. Reports indicate that he was killed after his abductors received a ransom of N6 million. Disturbing video clips of his beheading surfaced online on Sunday, in which his killers declared that there would be no elections in the country. A source from the council revealed that the clips were shared using the victim’s phone on his WhatsApp status. The source described the videos as horrific, stating, “He was tied and half-naked before he was beheaded. That was a painful way to die. They butchered him after collecting N6 million ransom.”

Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the police in the state, issued a statement on Monday announcing that a team of officers had been assembled to pursue the suspects. The statement noted, “The Imo State Police Command is aware of the iniquitous and obscene video that has gone viral on social media, where a man, suspected to be the abducted Ideato North LGA sole administrator, was seen kneeling with his hands tied while undergoing an inhuman act. He was subsequently killed by suspected members of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network.”

Okoye also indicated that an investigation into the abduction and murder of Ohizu had commenced. He emphasized that the police were already on the trail of the hoodlums before the “obscene video” appeared online. The police spokesperson urged the public to assist law enforcement by providing credible information and reporting any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station.
