Tribunal Confirms Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as Sokoto North Senator

In a recent development, the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Sokoto State has unequivocally upheld the victory of Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as the senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District.

The highly anticipated announcement comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Wamakko, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the fiercely contested election held on February 25. However, Wamakko’s primary opponent and former deputy governor of the state, Manir Dan’iya of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lodged a formal challenge against his triumph.

Delivering the verdict on Friday, Justice Josephine Oyefeso, the distinguished chairperson of the tribunal panel, thoroughly examined the grounds of Dan’iya’s petition and subsequently dismissed it for lack of merit.

In her ruling, Oyefeso emphasized that the petitioner failed to furnish substantial evidence to substantiate the allegations outlined in the petition, thereby falling short of the legal requirement of proving them beyond reasonable doubt.
