Troops Apprehend 34 Suspects for Murder, Kidnapping, and Others

Troops of Operation Safe Haven, on a mission called Hakorin Damisa IV, have successfully arrested a total of 34 individuals suspected of engaging in various criminal activities. These activities range from murder and kidnapping to illicit arms trade, farm destruction, cattle rustling, theft, and illegal drug possession.

The arrests were carried out between October 22 and 29, 2023, across Kaduna, Plateau, and Bauchi States.

Of particular interest among the detainees are two suspects: Tanko Abubakar and Umar Mohammed. They have been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the murder of Mrs. Ruth in Mai Jankai village, located in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A statement released on the Nigerian Army’s official account, X, confirmed this development. The statement reads, “Within the week, a total of 34 suspects were apprehended. Among them are seven suspected kidnappers, four alleged gunrunners, three individuals connected to village attacks, three cattle rustlers, and two drug peddlers.”

The statement further reveals that during this operation, three victims were successfully rescued from their kidnappers. Additionally, four attacks on vulnerable communities were prevented, and 36 prompt responses were made to distress calls.

Major General AE Abubakar, the Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, expressed deep gratitude for the cooperation and assistance received from local communities in Plateau, Southern Kaduna, and Bauchi States. This united effort has greatly contributed to the ongoing campaign to rid the region of criminal elements.

Major General Abubakar also assured the public that all suspects currently in custody will be subjected to the full force of the law once thorough investigations are concluded.
