Tinubu’s Renovation of National Mosque and Christian Centre: Wike Assures Nigerians of Religious Tolerance

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dispelled rumors and assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu is not anti-Christian or anti-Muslim. In fact, Wike emphasized that Tinubu sees all religions as equal because Nigeria is a diverse nation.

During an inspection of the ongoing renovation of the National Mosque and the National Christian Centre in Abuja, Wike reiterated his commitment to ensure the timely completion of the projects. He also pledged to personally visit the sites to witness the progress before deciding on the next course of action.

Addressing journalists after the inspection, Wike explained that the renovation work at the National Mosque was temporarily halted due to the need for additional tasks. However, he expressed satisfaction with the work done so far and authorized the release of funds to the contractor to facilitate the completion of the additional work.

In regard to the National Christian Centre, Wike stated that he would analyze the cost of the second phase of the renovation project. If it falls within the funding capacity of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), he will approve it. However, if the cost exceeds the FCTA’s approval threshold, Wike assured that he would approach President Bola Tinubu for necessary approval, emphasizing that the President is deeply committed to preserving these important national landmarks.

Wike concluded by stating, “President Tinubu is not against any religion; he sees all religions as one, because we are one Nigeria.”

This affirmation from the Minister of the FCT provides reassurance to Nigerians that religious inclusivity and tolerance remain integral to the country’s core values. As the renovation projects continue, Nigerians can look forward to the restoration of these significant places of worship, symbolizing unity and harmonious coexistence among people of different faiths.
