Glen Johnson: Robert Sanchez’s Presence not Enough for Chelsea’s Title Challenge

Former Chelsea stalwart Glen Johnson has cast doubt on the prospect of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez propelling the Blues to Premier League glory this season.

The acquisition of Sanchez from Brighton for a hefty £25 million this summer marked Chelsea’s definitive goalkeeping move, prompting the departure of Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga from Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

Despite featuring in all 14 of Chelsea’s matches across various competitions, Sanchez has been under intense scrutiny for his recent error-prone outings in the Premier League.

Speaking to Betfred, Johnson opined, “I believe Sanchez is competent at this level, but I remain sceptical about his ability to guard the goal for a title-winning Premier League team.”

“When it comes down to the wire, 99% of Premier League title-winning teams boast a world-class goalkeeper, as it hinges on the finest margins and demands a custodian capable of producing game-changing saves.”

“While Robert is undeniably a solid Premier League goalkeeper, title-winning teams unfailingly rely on a world-class shot-stopper, a category I don’t deem him to fit into at the present time.”
