IGP Initiates Investigation into Post-election Violence in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has taken a proactive step by ordering thorough investigations into the incidents of violence that marred the off-season governorship elections held on November 11 in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states.

In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja on Tuesday, the IGP’s directive was made clear.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, all Electoral Offences Desk officers have been tasked with commencing the investigation as ordered by Egbetokun.

Egbetokun also expressed his appreciation for the unwavering support provided by other security operatives to the Nigeria Police Force during the conduct of the elections.

He lauded the commitment and diligence exhibited by the security operatives in effectively policing the electoral process, deeming it highly productive and deserving of commendation.

Furthermore, Egbetokun noted the seamless nature of the electoral process in the three states, despite earlier threat assessments and anticipated challenges from various quarters.

He gave recognition to the exceptional efforts of the security personnel in maintaining law and order, as well as in safeguarding the electoral process and ensuring the safety of citizens.
