Head coach Ladan Bosso of the U-20 team has further streamlined his squad as he approaches the final selection for the 2022 U-20 AFCON in Egypt. Prior to Tuesday’s training session, four unnamed players were dropped from the roster. This session also provided Bosso and his coaching staff an opportunity to evaluate some overseas-based players who joined the camp over the weekend.
Among those tested were Ademola Ola-Adebomi from Crystal Palace, Joel Ideho from Arsenal, Michael Ologo from Istanbulspor, and Abel Ogwuche from Trelleborgs. The test game they participated in ended in a draw, with Ideho and Ogwuche standing out for their impressive performances. Ologo demonstrated composure typical of a topflight player, while Ola-Adebomi showcased his presence on the field. However, the 15 minutes of game time he received seemed insufficient for him to fully display his capabilities.
As the Flying Eagles continue their preparations for the tournament in Egypt, the Nigeria Football Federation has scheduled a two-legged friendly against Zambia for Friday and Sunday. Nigeria, a seven-time champion, has been placed in Group A alongside hosts Egypt, Mozambique, and Senegal for the tournament. The 2023 U-20 AFCON, set to take place from February 9 to March 11, will also serve as qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
