The Lagos State Government has advised motorists in the vicinity of the old Onikan Stadium on Lagos Island to plan their movements due to traffic restrictions for a student rally scheduled for Friday. This rally, organized by representatives from all tertiary institutions in the state, aims to support the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
In a statement released on Thursday, the state Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, announced that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be present to regulate traffic flow. He stated, “The Lagos State government advises motorists to plan their movement around Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Old Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island, ahead of the Students Rave 2023 event scheduled for Friday, 27th January 2023.”
Traffic restrictions will be in effect from 7:00 am on the day of the rally, specifically between the Police Zonal Headquarters, Zone 2, and Onikan Roundabout. Motorists traveling on Island Club Road near the Police Headquarters Zone 2, Onikan, are encouraged to take Ozumba Mbadiwe Road inbound towards Falomo Bridge (Five Cowries Bridge) to connect with Alfred Rewane and Osborne Roads for their journeys. Additionally, motorists are advised to use Force Road beside the Muson Centre to access John Randle Avenue and reach the CMS Bridge near the State House/old NITEL Building.
The commissioner also emphasized that security and law enforcement agencies will be stationed at all strategic junctions and intersections to ensure the safety and security of all road users.
