Ex-Ogun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola has received commendation from Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu following the judgment of the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo. The tribunal declared Oyetola the winner of the July 16 governorship election, a decision Akeredolu believes reflects the will of the people who overwhelmingly supported the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Oyetola during the polls.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, on Friday, Akeredolu expressed his delight at the tribunal’s ruling, stating that it restores hope for the common man and reinforces confidence in the judiciary. He remarked, “We received with delight the news of the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal which declared Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola as the winner of the July 16 governorship election in the State. This is indeed a victory for democracy.”
Akeredolu emphasized that the judgment would further consolidate and deepen the country’s democratic values and election petition jurisprudence, ultimately sustaining the faith of the people in the democratic process. He congratulated Oyetola, referring to him as his “dearest brother,” and extended his congratulations to the people of Osun State and the entire APC family, declaring, “This is a victory for all.”
While celebrating this momentous victory, Akeredolu assured Oyetola of unwavering support as they prepare to take their case to the Supreme Court. He stated, “We shall hold hands together and march on this path of shared conviction. In the end, this victory shall be permanent.” He also noted that the ruling has resolved the issues surrounding the election and expressed confidence that the restored mandate would bring renewed hope for Osun State.
Finally, Akeredolu encouraged party members to celebrate this victory while viewing it as a significant boost ahead of the upcoming elections.
