Appeal Court judgement: Kano residents troop out in support of Gov Yusuf

Hundreds of Kano residents trooped into the street on Monday evening to catch a glimpse of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was sacked by the Court of Appeal Court, expressing their sympathy and praying for him to succeed at the Supreme Court.

The crowd took over the streets of the Kano metropolis, trooping out of their shops and homes to show support for the embattled governor, who went around the city to commission projects in the city.

Yusuf, who was on his first public outing in the state after he was sacked by the Appeal Court in Abuja, was hailed by supporters all along his way from the Government House to the Specialist Hospital on Monday evening. The crowds took over the streets, chanting songs and eulogies, and saying prayers for him.

Media Talk Africa recalls that the Court of Appeal in Abuja on November 17, reaffirmed the judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal that sacked Governor Yusuf and declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna as the rightly elected governor of the state.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) had cross-appealed the Election Petition Tribunal decision on whether or not Yusuf was a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) when he contested as governor.

The crowd that trooped out chanted “Kano sai Abba, four-plus-four” (Kano is for Abba, two terms).

Gov Yusuf first commissioned the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, one of the several projects he had embarked upon since his election.

As he went about to inspect Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital and a road project at Wujuwuju in Gworon Dutse quarters, more and more supporters poured out into the streets.
