Hoodlums attack OSOPADEC commissioner, disrupt bursary, scholarship awards

A commissioner on the board of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) was beaten into a pulp on Wednesday evening by hoodlums who invaded the agency’s office in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Council Area of the state.

Communications Commissioner Kehinde Akinrotoye, popularly known as Bonsue Aketi within the state political circle, was attacked when the suspected hoodlums invaded the premises of OSOPADEC and disrupted the bursary and scholarship programmes.

Akinrotoye’s vehicles were also destroyed by the hoodlums, who were accused of benefiting from the agency despite not being from the mandate area.

The incident, which lasted for several hours, sent both staff and students scrambling for safety as gunshots rocked the premises.

According to an eyewitness who was at the scene of the incident, the hoodlums stormed the premises and fired gunshots, thereby halting the programme.

The eyewitness who gave his name as Gbenga stated that beneficiaries of the bursary and scholarship award were already seated when the hoodlums stormed the premises.

It took the spirited efforts of the operatives of the Ondo State Police Command to bring the situation under control.
