The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion at the Old Tollgate bus stop, directing vehicles down to the Berger section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for a duration of 10 weeks. This diversion will take effect from Monday, January 30, 2023, and will continue until Friday, April 15, 2023. Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, provided this information in a statement, explaining that the diversion is necessary due to ongoing road rehabilitation work being conducted by the Federal Ministry of Works.

The statement indicated that the construction would be executed in short segments to minimize inconvenience for motorists. Additionally, traffic on the Ibadan-bound carriageway will be reduced to two lanes to facilitate the reconstruction of the other half of the road. Dr. Oladeinde also mentioned that the U-turn in front of the Lagos State Emergency Centre will be temporarily closed to traffic. Motorists on the expressway will be redirected to the next U-turn at the Old Toll Gate, located by the traffic control point.

Furthermore, the commissioner noted that traffic from CMD Road intending to connect to 7UP and Motorways on the Lagos-bound carriageway will also utilize the Old Tollgate/Traffic Point U-turn. He emphasized that trucks and heavy-duty vehicles will be diverted to the Ojota Interchange. Traffic on CMD Road heading towards the expressway will be redirected to the entry point beside the FMW weighbridge, allowing access to the expressway via a contraflow.

Dr. Oladeinde urged citizens to refrain from indiscriminate stopping, waiting, and parking along CMD Road, as this behavior would hinder the efforts of the traffic management team deployed to oversee vehicular movement. He assured the public that appropriate signage with directions would be installed along the road to assist motorists during this period.
