Imo State Police Commissioner Redeploys DPO Over Suspected Rapist’s Escape

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has taken swift action by ordering the immediate redeployment of Orji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Udom Godwin, to the Command headquarters in Owerri. This decision comes following allegations of conspiracy, aiding and abetting in the escape of a suspected serial rapist, 30-year-old Ihee Andrewa of Ahiazu Mbaise, who was detained at the division.

Additionally, the CP has issued official queries to CSP Udom Godwin and other officers serving in the division, citing serious dereliction of duty, discreditable conduct, lack of supervision, failure to send a situation report, disobedience to lawful order, and acts of sabotage and unbecoming conduct as grounds for the queries.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, responding to the matter in a statement released to Media Talk Africa in Owerri, stated, “The CP has mandated the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (DCSCIID) to conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure the arrest of all suspects involved in the alleged rape of a 20-year-old lady in Orji, holding them accountable to the full extent of the law.”

He further added, “The DPO and other officers involved in the case are under investigation and will face appropriate sanctions if found complicit.”

CSP Sabo BABA, a seasoned police officer, has been deployed to assume the role of DPO Orji, taking charge of the division.

Reassuring the public, the police spokesman stated, “The Command appreciates the concerns of the general public and assures them that the victim will receive the justice she deserves in this case. We stand against rape, sexual abuse, and other gender-related crimes. Further developments in this case will be communicated to the public.”
